Zipcar – Environmentally friendly wheels when you want them

Zipcar, the worlds largest car club with over 100,000 members worldwide, is providing Londoners with the opportunity to lower their carbon emissions, reduce road congestion and save an average of £450 on car related costs.

Zipcar provides city dwellers with an easy alternative to owning a car with vehicles dotted all across London and a choice of up to 15 models, including hybrid vehicles. Zipcar is supporting London Sustainability Week in conjunction with its drive to reduce the number of privately owned cars on the road, as well as decrease congestion and pollution.

At scale the average Zipcar takes 20 privately owned cars off the road, with 40% of members choosing to sell their car or stop a purchasing decision. Members tend to walk more by cutting out shorter journeys, which leads to the average member using 219 less gallons of petrol a year. Zipcars are also replaced every two years with more environmentally friendly models.

Signing up couldn’t be easier, it takes just a few minutes and members can book a variety of cars from Minis to BMWs, minutes before they drive, from as little as £4.95 an hour. This includes the London congestion charge, fully comprehensive insurance, MOT and maintenance costs.
