Giving up the car can seem like a big step, but as most Londoners know, transport choices make a big difference to our environment and quality of life. With fuel prices soaring and the recent good weather, Londoners have more reasons than ever to embrace the alternatives.
From naked cycling to car clubs and a zero emissions eco rally, Love London’s Better Journey’s theme presents all the options. Bike Week 2008 coincides with the festival and cycling events loom large in the schedule with chances to try out electric bikes and whacky push bikes, join group rides and make an appointment with Dr Bike and get a free check up for two-wheeled wonders.
But it’s not all about pedal-pushing; there are many walks and walking tours urging Londoners to get to know and love their city anew plus liftsharing and car clubs.
Our sponsor, Zipcar is going the extra mile to support Love London festival goers with membership offers and free driving credit for raffle winners - more on our website or visit our Love London stalls – dates and locations will be posted on our website.
Paul McLoughlin, Zipcar General Manager of UK and European operations said: “Love London champions and challenges a breadth of green-focused and friendly organizations to not only make the city an even more fun and dynamic place to live in, but also encourages communities to showcase their creative and green credentials. Zipcar is thrilled to be able to help sponsor the festival for the second consecutive year, and be part of a vibrant initiative which values green transport solutions as a pioneering alternative to car ownership in an already congested city.”
Love London Chairman Chris Church added: “London is going through a quiet revolution as more and more people cycle and use buses. But, despite that, road transport is responsible for around a fifth of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions and those emissions are still rising. We need to find new ways to get around and Love London is a good time to find our about green transport choices. For those who need to use a car, car clubs like Zipcar, offer a real eco-friendly alternative.”
