Open House
This year the
architecture education organisation Open House is joining forces with Love
London to highlight the links between sustainability and design excellence.
As sustainability and ‘green living’ become mainstream, what does ‘sustainable design’ actually mean in practice? And
how is it working for local communities throughout London? Through a linked
campaign with Love London, we are working to promote and champion sustainable
design exemplars and to build a better understanding of how design decisions
impact on live-ability.
Open House will be exploring this issue through its year-round programmes and
the Open House London Annual Event (20–21 September 2008), the capital’s best-known architectural initiative.
Every September over 600 buildings celebrate design excellence by opening their
doors at no charge to the public, with 360,000 visits over a 48-hour period.
Showcasing sustainable design and construction is a key theme of the event – alongside the opportunity to explore and experience green buildings at
first hand, Londoners can learn more about what makes ‘good green design’ at related talks, tours, debates
and walks.
