With recession hitting London and Londoners hard there is concern that Green initiatives will slip to the bottom of the agenda. In reality, though, this is an opportunity as there has never been a better incentive for Londoners to start making sustainable lifestyle changes – many of which will also save a few pennies.
We want to encourage event organizers to emphasise the “Eco-Thrift” elements of their LL events. Will your event showcase money-saving lifestyle changes such as: cycle more, save energy, save water, grow your own food, enjoy your local park / nature reserve? Or, is your event a cheap / free day out in London? We will be pushing this message through all our marketing, so why not join us and help your event reach out to even more Londoners.
The booklet is growing this year. As well as a great events guide we also want it to be informative and helpful. It will include articles, tokens and tips on greening London and greening lifestyles as well as saving money and enjoying the Capital.
If you have a great idea for an article please let us know - this could get an extra plug for your organisation. Alternatively if you’re interested in producing a token to offer money off green products, reduced entry to your event, or even just to promote your cause such as “Visit your local nature reserve – FREE!” then please get in touch.
I’ve always admired the way my Granny’s “waste-not-want-not” maxim saves money and resources, so I’m putting together a couple of pages of Eco-Thrift “Tips from our Grannies”. If you’ve picked up some “Careful little ways” you’d like to include please drop them over to me by email and share Granny’s wisdom with the world!
To contribute any of the above content for the booklet please contact Catherine press@lovelondon.org.uk as soon as possible. The booklet deadline is 27th March.
The updated LL website will go live in the next few days, so please check out our new look. Users can now view festival images and the festival film without navigating away from the page. Don’t forget that you can add images to your event entry and links to video clips (subject to moderation).
Podcasting
We would like to extend the reach of the festival by making Podcasts of a selection of events. It could be a workshop, demonstration, debate or seminar. If you’d like to help your event reach more Londoners and you think the format / content would be appropriate to Podcast, please contact Catherine to discuss this further.
Logo
The new Love London logo will be finalised in the coming weeks.
Mobile Phone Recycling Scheme
We are teaming up with Regensis, a mobile phone recycling scheme. LL branded freepost envelopes will be stapled within the Love London booklet to encourage Londoners to recycle unwanted handsets. The scheme will generate money, which we will distribute amongst all community groups, events organisers charities involved in the Love London festival. We would like to ask for your support of this scheme by encouraging event attendees to take a Love London booklet and use the inserted envelope to recycle their phone. It might help to point out that in doing so they will be generating funds to support your cause. Any events organisers who would like to become more closely involved with promoting this scheme will receive a larger percentage.
VIPs
Tony McNulty, Minister for London has been invited to the LLLYP launch and we have received a positive, though tentative, response.
We are also tying down final confirmation with our mystery green-minded celebrity and will reveal the identity as soon as we are able.
