The Love London Green Festival 2009 is reaching out to recession-hit Londoners. Hundreds of cheap and free events will take place across the Capital from 4 – 28 June and organizers are offering extra help this year with an eco-thrift themed festival guidebook, green offers and pod casts. Love London is the biggest green festival in Europe and is thought to be the biggest in the world.
Events under the festival’s themes Green Places, Green Living and Green Innovations are not only a cheap, fun day out, visitors can also learn how going green could help to ease the pinch.
The environmental and wetlands-themed Love London Recycled Sculpture Show is a highlight event, which, in conjunction with the festival, will launch on 4th June at WWT London Wetland Centre in Barnes. VIP guests will mingle among recycled artworks by some of the UK’s most innovative sculptors including Anthony Wilson, Ptolemy Elrington and Joe Rush.
Our primary theme, Green Places (GP) will urge Londoners to enjoy the fantastic free resource we have in our city’s parks, community gardens, nature reserves, allotments as well as celebrating our sustainable buildings. Events include nature walks, tours, picnics, country fairs as well as art and photography exhibitions.
The Green Living theme (GL) aims to remove the barriers between going green and the pressures of daily life in the Capital. GL events include green fairs, “grow your own” events, advice from the energy doctor and a family-friendly recycling event with swap shops and musical instrument making. Many of the attractions, workshops and stalls feature top tips on how to go green and save money – as much as £1000 a year.
Green Innovations events include an eco-vehicle rally, a futuristic climate change art exhibition and a tour of the cutting edge eco-innovations on the streets of London.
Readers of our free new look festival guidebook will glean “Eco-thrift tips from our Grannies” as well as benefiting from promotional offers for green products and useful articles. We are partnering with a mobile phone recycling scheme, which will raise money to support sustainable projects across the city. And anyone unable to make the events will be able to catch up with our pod casts.
Love London is also extending its reach internationally with a global video-conference on sustainable building materials and close ties with a sister festival in Vancouver.
