With the global financial crisis now in the forefront of the news, and with global warming ever-present on the agenda, what practical steps can ordinary people make in their own lives to conserve resources, to side-step the ruinous financial practices that have brought us to this state of affairs? O
One answer is to run Complementary Currencies, that can be managed on a grass-roots basis. What kind of people run these organisations, and what kind of people join them? Will local currencies become more effective and powerful if they can be connected up regionally? If scaled up, what impact might they have on quality of life, on volunteering and local control of resources?
At the Launch of the London Wide Links, the new on-line trading system will be showcased.The exciting, user-friendly website with personal profiles that allows members to manage their own accounts, keep their "offers" and "wants" up to date, and transact with each other online. The overall currency is "links", but members can trade in "hours" or specific project currencies.
We invite the whole community of LETS organisers in London, as everyone who enquired about joining LETS, and new members of the general public, to a day-conference to explain the whole thing, enable them to connect with each other, and set up their accounts.
