Bexley Environmental Challenge 2008

Filed under:

The ever popular Bexley Environmental Challenge is once again underway.

Bexley's record on recycling and the environment is second to none in London - and this year the borough will be tapping into the unstoppable enthusiasm of local residents even further by adding a new category to
find the borough's greenest household.

Any household demonstrating a commitment to reducing its environmental impact and encouraging others to 'do their bit' is urged to enter the challenge and impress the judges with their initiatives.

More good news for this year is that the Clyde Pugh Award, annually presented to the overall green champion, has now been extended to include young and old alike.

The annual challenge always attracts a wide range of inspiring projects. Last year's overall winner was Bursted Wood Primary School, Bexleyheath, which impressed judges for its environmental work across all categories,
but especially for its environmental education work which was demonstrated via a wildlife pond, murals and an outdoor environmental learning area.

This year it could be you, your school, group or business being hailed as environmental champions, so don't be a retiring wallflower!

Whether it be protecting wildlife, tackling climate change or innovative recycling schemes, the London Borough of Bexley wants to hear about what you are doing.

Competition categories include recycling, nature conservation, general environmental activities, air and water projects and education, with a separate category for businesses to show how they have improved their
environment and/or surroundings.

The deadline for applications is 30 April and shortlisted projects will be visited during June and July.

Trophies and cash prizes for winners will be presented by the Mayor of Bexley during a prestigious award evening at the Civic Offices in November. All entrants will also receive a framed certificate.

Winners from the 2008 Bexley Environmental Challenge will be put forward to the 2009 Green Guardian Awards, where they will compete with entries from Lewisham, Bromley and Greenwich.
