Who Says you Can't Get Something for Nothing? With Freegle UK you can!

Filed under:   Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

Freegle — which means 'Free Giving Locally Easily' — is a UK-based 'Not for Profit' Online Organisation with only one goal: 'To Stop Good Stuff Going to Landfill'

With over 300 branches and 1.67 million members UK-wide (and counting.) Giving and Getting just about anything, so long as it's Free and Legal. Freegle has been online since September 2009 and has already won two online green awards. The CEED National eWell-Being Award 2010 and the Nigel's Store Green Web Award 09.

Freegle also actively encourages schools, colleges, clubs, groups, charities and other 'Not for Profit' organisations, for instance, to post for resouces and advertise their fundraising events on our Cafe Groups. You'll find the link to it on our home page, once you've registered with Freegle.

The easiest way to describe Freegle is that it's a bit like eBay without the money! For instance, if any of your kitchen white goods or repairable electrical equipment (such as your washing machine) stops working, post an 'Offered' ad. with an idea of what the machine is doing or not doing.  When you get a response, you can then arrange a mutually convenient time to have it picked up. Then you can either post a 'Wanted' ad. or respond to an offer of another one, and when that one breaks down, don't fix it, just put that one on freegle and get another one!

You never have to buy whitegoods ever again!

So, pop along to our main UK website, use the 'Find a Group' link and plug in your area: once you've found the branch you'd like to join, click on the link to it and follow it to register. You'll get a confirmation email; just click on the link to complete the process, which will take you back to your local group, then click on 'Messages' to see what other members are offering or requesting — it's that simple!
